Adisham Bungalow

Adisham Bungalow is situated in Haputale, Badulla District, Sri Lanka. It is a country house situated near Haputale. It was built in 1931 by a British planter and aristocrat named Sir Thomas Villers who was the former Chairman of George Steuart Co, a trading and estate agency based in Colombo.

About the destination

Adisham Bungalow is just a 4 km drive from Haputale. This is a monastery which is been run by Benedictine monks. It was built by Thomas Villers who was born in Adhisham in 1869. Adisham Bungalow was designed by R. Booth and F. Webster on 10 acres of land. Thomas Villers passed away in 1959 and his cremation was held at Pulury. His life story is carved in every stone that holds Adisham Bungalow.

The legend of Adisham Bungalow

Sir Thomas wanted to build his dream home in Sri Lanka thus he selected a place in Haputale. This place was abandoned by people because of its high elevation but Sir Thomas cut a road through the forest to pave the way to reach the area. The whole building and the garden itself is on ten acres of land.

It is open from 9 am to 4 pm but what is accessible to the visitors is a very limited area.

Reaching the destination

From Colombo

Get on the Katunayake Expressway from Darley Road. Take Southern Expressway. Follow Colombo – Galle – Hambantota – Wellawaya Highway to Wellawaya-Ella-Kumbalwela. Continue on Haputale – Dambetenne.

Continue on Keppetipola – Boralanda – Haputale Road. Drive to Adisham Road to reach your destination.

From Bandarawela

Head southeast toward Bandarawela-Poonagala-Koslanda Road. Sharp left onto Beragala-Hali Ela Highway.

Turn left onto Beragala-Hali Ela Highway. Slight right at Gayathri Traders onto Keppetipola – Boralanda – Haputale Road. Keep left to continue on Adisham Road.
