Angammedilla National Park

Angammedilla National Park is situated in Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka. It is a national park which was situated in 2006 and is governed by the Department of Wildlife Conservation. The main purpose of the Angammedilla National Park is to protect the drainage basin of Parakrama Samudra.

About the destination

Angammedilla National Park is located 225 km away from Colombo in the Polonnaruwa district. It also protects the drainage basins of two irrigation tanks which are the Minneriya and Giritale Sanctuary. You will be able to see a wide range of fauna and flora in the Angammedilla National Park. The Amban river which is helped by the Sudu Kanda makes the south border of the park.

What to see in Angammedilla National Park

In Angammedilla National Park you will be able to see a mountain range that stretches across the park from Girithale to Minneriya. The climate in the park is a mix of both wet and dry seasons which makes the vegetation in the park also a mix of both wet and dry seasons. The area is dominated by Mesua ferrea trees and dry evergreen forests. As for the wildlife, you will be able to see peacocks, sloth bears, tufted gray and purple-faced langurs, buffaloes, elephants, red slender louris as well as beautiful deers.

How to reach the destination

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road. You have to take the Colombo – Kandy Road and drive to Elahera – Giritale Road in North Central Province to reach your destination.

From Polonnaruwa

Head northwest on Maradankadawala-Habarana-Thirukkondaiadimadu Highway. Then at the roundabout, you have to take the 2nd exit and turn left onto Elahera road. Turn left at Giritale Bus Stop onto Elahera – Giritale Road and drive to your destination.
