Bambarakiri Ella

Bambarakiri Ella is a beautiful waterfall situated close to Rattota town in Matale District. The fall can be viewed in three parts and the total height is about 10 meters. This is a popular stop among the travelers who are visiting Riverstone mountain, as it is situated on the way there.

About the destination

The reason why this beautiful waterfall is popular among travelers is how easily it can be reached. It is a 200m walk from where you stop your vehicle at the main road. You will be greeted by some local vendors who maintain a line of small boutiques on your way to the waterfall.

Then you will meet an old suspension bridge built over the fall, which adds a very enchanting appearance to the surrounding making it look more like a romantic scene from a movie back in the 1960s.

Gushing water comes rolling down the waterfall and falls to its basin at the bottom which is a good place to bathe during the dry season, but a  dangerous place during the rainy season. There are several types of fauna and flora in the area The fall is usually crowded during weekends due to its popularity. So the best days to visit these waterfalls are definitely weekdays!

There is also another small waterfall in the area called ‘Mini Bambarakiri Falls’, which has been created by splitting the flow of water at the top of the falls into a small stream.  To reach here, you need to take the footpath towards the jungle and walk a short distance after you cross the suspension bridge.
