Doric house is situated in Mannar in Sri Lanka. This was the residence of the then Governer Fedrick Ceylon. He was the son of the British Prime Minister of Britain namely the 2nd Earl of Gulliford.
The Doric house is situated in Arippu. It was used by the Governor to inspect the pearl fishing that took place in the area and it is built on a low cliff which is close to the beautiful beach. This was later used by more and more people such as the officials, governors, government agents so much more important people at that time. Once you visit this place you will understand why Fedrick North chose this place.
The Doric house was planned by the governor himself maybe because he wanted to give a special touch to it. Somehow it was named the Doric house because it was built in the Doric order style which was an Ancient Greek pattern.
The structure was made using both bricks and mortar but due to the lack of maintenance and extreme weather, this place is now ruined though it is a protected archeological monument.
