Description

About Hathmale Falls:

The Hathmale Falls is also referred as Sathmale Falls or Seven Story/Segments Falls. As the name depicts, the waterfall flows or splits into seven segments. Hathmale Falls is of about 45 meters in height and 10 meters wide, and considered to be the tallest waterfall flowing into the Ginganga River at Pallegama. The waterfall begins at the Deniyaya Gongala Mountain range situated in the Matara district, Southern province of Sri Lanka. Hathmale Falls is a popular waterfall explored by locals and foreigners.

How to reach the Destination:

Hathmale Falls is situated about 8 km from Deniyaya town in the Matara district, or about 93 km away from Galle. If you are travelling from Galle, it takes about 2 ½ hours to reach the destination of the waterfall. From Galle you should take the Galle – Deniyaya – Madampe Road and go past Akuressa, Pitabeddara, Morawaka and Kotapola until Deniyaya. Just as you pass the main city centre of Deniyaya, you should travel along the Deniyaya – Pallegama Road for about 7 km and then turn to Hathmale Ella Road to reach the Hathmale Ella Falls. Actually, there is no sign board to the waterfall; therefore, you should look for Hathmale Ella Road sign board in the right hand side just before the Pallegama Bridge. Travel about 1 km on this road and you would reach a private garden. You need to travel through the garden for about 250 m on this road and then you need to climb down a steep hill to view the Handunmale Falls.
