About the destination

Ibbankatuwa Megalithic Tombs is an age-old burial ground that was used in the 6th century B.C. It is one of the largest and best-preserved ancient burial grounds found in Sri Lanka. 42 clusters of cist tombs were found and each tomb has a floor slab, four upright stone units, and a capstone forming a rectangular chamber. Urns were discovered that contained cremated human remains and rich finds of grave articles in the form of pottery and beads of high craftsmanship.

Ibbankatuwa artistry

There were pottery and beads found among the burial of Ibbankatuwa and these provide enough proof to show the use of pottery and the sense of jewelry used at that time. Carnelian beads were also found which showcases foreign trade associated with these settlements at that time.
