The Jaffna library was one of the best in Asia before being burned down.The library was built in 1933 and burnt in 1981. Now most of it is restored and it is open to public viewing. It is one of the monumental buildings in Jaffna and very close to the town. Its magnificent architecture and the fact that it used to contain some of the oldest books published in the world are the reasons behind its importance.
