Kalpitiya Dutch Church is situated in Kalpitiya. It is also known as the Dutch Reformed Church in Sri Lanka. This is one of the oldest Protest churches in Sri Lanka. This is a very stunning structure that should be witnessed by everyone who visits Kalpitiya.
Kalpitiya Dutch Church is located between the Dutch Fort and the village of Kalpitiya. It is a very simple structure that has tombstones carved into the floor and a huge stone tombstone at its backyard. This is a smaller version of the church in the Matara fort. The whole church is built in the Doric style which gives it a grandeur look.
The Kalpitiya Dutch Church was built in 1706 by the Dutch. The religion venerated in here is Protestant/Christian religion. It was renovated in around 1840, at that time a semi-circular porch which is made with brick and plaster pillars was added. All the original Dutch tombstones can still be seen on the floor of the church.
Go on McCallum Road and enter the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway from Colombo. Take the exit toward Puttalam. Exit from Katunayake and merge onto Chilaw – Colombo Main Road and go for 50.6 km. Then go on Colombo Puttalam Road and then turn left on to onto Kalpitiya Road. Then turn left onto Muhathuwaram Road and you will be able to reach your destination.
Continue to Kalpitiya Road. Turn left onto Muhathuwaram Road to reach your destination.
