The bridge is located amid a thick jungle which is a part of the Wilpattu wildlife sanctuary. In the rainy season, water flows over the bridge which makes it quite beautiful scenery to witness.

Structure of the Kunchukulam hanging bridge

The Kunchukulam hanging bridge is held by two strong cables and with steel sheets put across. It is 150 meters long and 1.2 meters in width. These types of bridges are called Ellena Palama or Sangili Palama in Sinhala which means Suspension bridges or Hanging bridges. The bridge is close to the turnoff to the Madhu church thus it belongs to the Madhu Division.
