Madu Ganga

Madu Ganga is situated in Galle in Sri Lanka. There are swampy marshlands covered in Mangrove forests around the area. The forest covers an area of 61 hectares and 14 species of mangroves can be found in the area.

About the destination

Madu Ganga is situated in the Southern Province in Sri Lanka. It is connected with the Randombe Lake and form the Madu Ganga wetland. There’s a high number of Mangrove islets and thus it forms a very coastal wetland ecosystem. The inhabitants of these islets produce cinnamon oil as well as peeled cinnamon.

Eco-system in Madu Ganga

Madu Ganga is surrounded by a large number of Mangroves and 19 of them are endemic. There’s also wildlife in Madu Ganga from which wild boar is the largest animal. You will also be able to see small animals such as squirrels, monkeys, and so on. When it comes to birds you will be able to see cormorants and kingfishers as they are a very common sight. Also, there are 31 types of reptiles and 50 kinds of butterflies.

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road and turn right onto Kynsey Road. Go for 450 meters then turn right onto Athurugiriya Road. Turn right onto Southern Expressway and take the exit from the Dodangoda interchange. Turn left onto Ambalangoda road and turn right onto Uragaha – Karandeniya Road to reach your destination.

From Ambalangoda

Go on Vijayarama road and then turn left onto Ambalangoda road.  Then turn right onto Uragaha – Karandeniya Road to reach your destination.
