Mahamevnawa Monastery Ella is situated in Ella in Sri Lanka. This is one of the most sacred and revered temples in Sri Lanka. It was founded by the most Venerable Kiribathgoda Gnananda Thero and this place is so majestic that it is one of the most visit places in Ella.
Mahamevnawa Monastery Ella is a monastery and a Buddhist temple that is situated in Mahamevnawa road in Ella. This place provides shelter for more than 30 Theravada Buddhist monks. It is situated at the peak of a very scenic mountain which has the most spectacular view that can take one’s breath away.
Mahamevnawa Monastery Ella is made beautiful with charming carvings, stunning paintings, and murals. If you like you may even get personalized meditation lectures from the monks rather than just talking freely with them. You will also be able to listen to soothing Buddhist hymns in this place.
The Mahamevnawa Monastery Ella is open from 8 am to 9 pm every day of the week.
Go on McCallum Road and turn right onto Kynsey Road. Turn right at the Clock Tower onto Athurugiriya Road and merge onto Southern Expressway. Turn left onto Colombo- Hambantota Highway and turn left onto Wellawaya By-Pass. Turn right onto Badulla Road and turn right onto Mahamevnawa Road to reach your destination.
