Pitawala Pathana also known as the Mini World’s End is situated in the Knuckles mountain range. It is a grass plain that spreads for over 10 hectares. It is covered with just a thin layer of the soil layer and the grass is about 10 cm. There is a huge diversity of fauna and flora as well as many animal species can be found. The trees and bushes are isolated and scattered.

About the destination

Pitawala Pathana has a very rare type of grassland and has a very particular ecological condition that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. This fact was confirmed by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

It has a very thrilling glimpse of the depth which is similar to the world’s endpoint at Horton Plains. This place has two endemic species one is a frog known as Dumbara Galpara Mediya and the other is Patan Ala, a type of grass.

Turn right to Kathiresan Kovil Road and turn right onto Kandy Road.Turn right onto Elahera-Hettipola Raod and turn left onto Matale – Illukkumbura Road

From Matale

Go on Kandy Road and turn left onto Matale – Illukkumbura Road to reach your destination.
