Old Dutch Fort Tangalle

Old Dutch Fort Tangalle is situated in Tangalle in Sri Lanka. It is a small Dutch fort which is an important anchorage on the southern coast of the island. It is a very beautiful fort that is worth witnessing by yourself.

About the destination

Old Dutch Fort Tangalle is 12 meters in height and it still in good condition. The structure of it is made with coral and limestone but sadly in the past, it was converted into a prison by the British and it was also used as an anchorage. This is used as a prison by the Department of Prisons up to date.

Reaching the destination

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road and go on Colombo – Katunayake Expressway. Continue onto Southern Expressway and you have to take the exit from the Beliatta interchange. Turn left onto Beliatta – Walasmulla Road and take the 2nd exit onto Colombo- Wellawaya Highway. Then go on Sea Avenues to reach your destination.
