Peraliya Tsunami Memorial (Tsunami Honganji Viharaya) is situated in the Southern Province in Sri Lanka. It was built with the assistance of Japan’s Honganji Temple of Kyoto. This place is built in memory of the victims of the tragedic tsunami that took place in 2004. This is a very stunning scene that has attracted the hearts of many.

Peraliya Tsunami Memorial (Tsunami Honganji Viharaya) is quite a beautiful sight. It has a 30 meters tall Buddha statue that faces the ocean and this statue was based on the Buddhas of Bamiyan in Afghanistan which was destroyed by the Taliban in March 2001. The statue is guarded by four lions which are surrounded by a magnificent pond.

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road and turn right onto Kynsey Road. Go for 450 meters then turn right onto Athurugiriya Road. Turn right onto Southern Expressway and take the exit from the Dodangoda interchange. Turn left onto Ambalangoda road and turn left onto Elpitiya Road. Then turn right onto Kahawa road and after 8.4 kilometers turn left onto Colombo to reach your destination.

From Ambalangoda

Go on Sangaraga Mawatha and then turn left onto Colombo road to reach your destination.
