Pidurangala Temple & Rock

Pidurangala Viharaya is situated in Matale District in Sri Lanka. Viharaya known as the temple is located at the top of a rock which creates the most beautiful scenery in the southern Asian continent. The locations were famous for hikes by locals you can see the famous Sigiriya rock by climbing pidurangala. Sigiriya rock is one of the most popular destinations in South Asia with more than a thousand tourist attractions every year. Hike to pidurangala is a bit of a challenge but it is worth try, and effort is well worth it. Halfway of the hike, you will see a partially bricked made lord Buddha statue dating back to 2000 Years BC.

Before climbing the rock, you can visit the Pidurangala temple at the base of the hike. To jump the walk, you need to pass the temple and need to pay a fee of 5 US$. When you enter the temple, you need to cover your body fully due to cultural norms in the country and Buddhists culture. It is advised to wear hiking shoes or boots as there are large boulders to step across and some stairs exist along the rock wall of the hike.

While climbing, you can see remnants of royal cave temple which includes few religious structures. The main feature is that reclining Buddha statue sheltered by a protruding rock. Its half reconstructed of brick and much of remains of the original sculpture is still exists in the royal cave temple. Once you climb the hike, you can see Sigiriya rock. The two stones coexist directly across from one another. You also can see the vast countryside and jungles of Sri Lanka. No one will block the scenic beauty from side to the other. It is considered as one of the best and amazing climbs in the hill capital of Sri Lanka.
