Single tree Hill Buddhist temple is situated in Nuwara Eliya in Sri Lanka. It is also famously known as “The one tree hill”.   It is the 10th tallest mountain in Sri Lanka and this is a real traveler’s paradise that shouldn’t be missed by any and visited by many.

The significance and the reason for the peak to obtain the name Single tree Hill Buddhist temple is because the peak has just one tree on top of it. It is quite a view since the hill has just a beautiful tree and a magnificent temple.

Hiking in Singletree Hill Buddhist temple

The hiking journey to the Single Tree Hill Buddhist temple starts from the racecourse of Nuwara Eliya. It only rises to a height of only 250 meters above Nuwara Eliya city. Thus giving it the appearance of a hill. The hike will take about 11/2 hours to 2 hours to hike. The best time to start hiking is between 5.30 am to 7 am and it is not that tough to hike in the area. You might even be able to see the most extravaganza sunrise that is just perfect for photographs.

Reaching the destination

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road and enter the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway from Colombo. Take the exit toward the outer circular expressway and turn right onto Colombo-Kandy road to continue for 11.6 km.

Then turn right onto Yakkala-Radawana road and take a slight right onto Nittambuwa – Ruwanwella Road. Then continue onto Avissawella – Hatton – Nuwara Eliya Highway and turn left to Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi Highway.

Turn left onto Single Tree Road At Single Tree Temple, continue onto Single Tree Hill Road to reach your destination.

From Nuwara Eliya

Head northwest on Peradeniya-Badulla-Chenkaladi Highway. Turn left at Ratha Tours Colombo onto Single Tree Road. Turn right at Single Tree Temple, continue onto Single Tree Hill Road.
