Taprobane Island is situated close to Weligama in Sri Lanka. This was originally known as “Galduwa” which means “Rock island” in Sinhalese. This is a private island that has only one villa and it was named after the old Greek word which was used for Sri Lanka.
About the destination
Taprobane Island has its famous owner who is Maurice Talvande who was sighted back in 1925. He used this island to make his private villa and turn it into a stunning Eden. Many books were written for this island such as “Taprobane(Extraordinary day) and “Dark Island”. However industrial development done on this island has damaged its real glamor and also the construction after the 2004 Tsunami added to it.
