Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery is situated in the Southern Province in Sri Lanka. This is a place where the eggs of turtles are preserved and well looked after until they are hatched. Then they are released back to the sea where they belong. The caregivers in this place take high care of the eggs and the baby turtles.
Things to do in Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery
In Urawatte Sea Turtle Hatchery you will be able to see a very rare species of animal which is the turtle. You will witness turtles of different types, breeds, colors, and sizes. This place also has eggs of turtles which are also showcased but you are not allowed to touch anything at all. If you are fortunate enough you will also be able to release a turtle that is grown to its age back to the sea.
This is a very special place that should not be missed to be visited.
Reaching the destination
From Colombo
Go on McCallum Road and turn right onto Kynsey Road. Go for 450 meters then turn right onto Athurugiriya Road. Turn right onto Southern Expressway and take the exit from the Dodangoda interchange. Turn left onto Ambalangoda Road and after 14 kilometers you will be able to reach your destination.
From Ambalangoda
Go on Ambalangoda – Batapola Road and turn left onto Sangaraga Mawatha. Then after 270 meters turn left onto Colombo Road to reach your destination.
