Ussangoda National Park

Ussangoda National Park is situated on the Colombo – Kataragama road, soon after you passed Ambalanthota. This place, with no doubt, has obtained the attractions of the people as the mysterious land with no vegetation and as it looks like a land of red soil. Though there is a specific mutation, the environment is quite welcoming and breathtaking. Simply put, as you enter the Ussangoda National Park, it feels as if you are coming to the Martian Territory.

Many locals suggest the reason for such mutation is due to a meteorite which had fallen in the vicinity. This could be somewhat true as well, as the mineral rocks are like quartz, ones the regular cobble rocks were broken there is some form of a crystal in the middle of the cliff. Furthermore, as per the villagers, Ussangoda National Park is a sanctuary for the rare species of medicinal plants which are in eh brink of extinction.

Furthermore, many species of birds and small animals could be seen in the vicinity. The scenery from the end of the cliff is breathtaking; that is where the red earth meets the turquoise sea and sea waves with gentle white foam. It is believed the sacred place belongs to Rama- Ravana tale and the war between both they took place in Ussangoda.
