Wales Park

Wales Park is also known as the Royal Palace Park, Wace Park, or Rajawasala Park. It is a considerably small but friendly situated park on top of a small hill in Kandy. This was renamed as Wales Park in honor of the Prince of Wales by the British.

About the place

Wales Park was built by King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. The place where it is situated was named Castle Hill by the British. There is a Japanese field gun that was captured by the British during World war II. This is a little beautiful paradise you shouldn’t miss during your visit to Kandy.

History of the place

A Government Agent named Herbert Wace took initiatives for this place to be restored in 1880. In the past, the place where the park is situated was the palace of Konnappu Bandara who ruled as Wimaladharmasuriya I in Kandy.
