Sri Mangalarama Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in the Batticaloa district. It is the only Buddhist temple in the Batticaloa district. It is open every day to the public from 6 AM to 9 PM. People can come and visit this place to see its beauty and splendor.

About the destination

Sri Mangalarama Raja Maha Viharaya is situated in the Pansala road which is close to the Batticaloa ‘s police station. There are many buildings and a stupa in the Viharaya. The visitors who come to this place can also be given shelter for the night. The pilgrims and visitors can donate to maintain and improve the temple premises. Rev. Ampitiye Sumanarathna Thero is in charge of the temple.

What you can see in Sri Mangalarama Raja Maha Viharaya

In the Sri Mangalarama Raja Maha Viharaya, there is a beautiful Buddha statue in the sitting position while there are many sculptures of devotees made on the two walls on either side. There is another statue of Buddha in the seated position with a cobra sheltering Buddha’s head.  If you are interested you may observe the pictures hanged in the area which consists of the ancient building and folklores.

Reaching the destination

From Colombo

Go on McCallum Road. Take Colombo – Katunayake Expressway. Take Ekala – Kotadeniyawa Road. Follow Ambepussa – Kurunegala – Trincomalee Highway.

Take Elahera – Giritale Road and go on  Trincomalee Highway to Pansala Road in Batticaloa and turn left onto Pansala Road and drive to your destination.

From Batticaloa

Head south toward Trincomalee Highway. Turn left at Yamaha Plaza. onto Trincomalee Highway. At the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Trinco Road. Turn left onto Pansala Road and drive to your destination.
