Ambewela New Zealand farm is situated in the small town of Ambewela. The town of Ambewela is famous for the two farms such as the “Ambewela farm” and “New Zealand farm”. Though only the latter is open for outsiders it has become a popular tourist attraction for both children and adults. The whole farm spreads for an area of 1500 acres.
History of Ambewela New Zealand farm
The Ambewela New Zealand farm has a long history to write. The Ambewela farm was initiated in the early 1940s while the New Zealand Farm started in 1960. The New Zealand farm started with the help of the New Zealand government and the place is managed by the Ambewela farm. Only the New Zealand farm is open for visitors and not the Ambewela farm. Both the farms tend to Ayrshire and Friesians cows which are twice the size of an average cow in Sri Lanka.
It also has a product outlet from which you can buy products of the farm such as fresh milk and here you will be able to see the automated milking process.
Reaching the destination
From Colombo
Go on McCallum Road and enter the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway from Colombo. Take the exit toward the outer circular expressway and turn right onto Colombo-Kandy road to continue for 11.6 km.
Then turn right onto Yakkala-Radawana road and take a slight right onto Nittambuwa – Ruwanwella Road. Then continue onto Avissawella – Hatton – Nuwara Eliya Highway and turn right onto Blackpool-Ambewela-Pattipola-Horton Plain Road.
Turn right at Ambewela Junction onto World’s End Road and turn right at Ambewela Beer Bar onto New Zealand Farms Road to reach your destination.
From Nuwara Eliya
Head southwest on Wijithapura Rd toward Blackpool – Magasthota Road. Turn left at Pradeep Motors onto Blackpool-Ambewela-Pattipola-Horton Plain Road. Turn right at Ambewela Junction onto World’s End Road and turn right at Ambewela Beer Bar onto New Zealand Farms Road to reach your destination.
