Nanu-Oya is a little village in the Nuwara-Eliya district surrounded by a 27 km long stream of river by the same name Nanu-Oya River that originates from Pidurutalagala Mountain. This village consists just a few houses, two temples, a school, and popular Nanu-Oya railway station which is the railroad entrance to Nuwara-Eliya. Nanu-Oya Falls that is about 60 meters high is a picturesque waterfall in Nanu-Oya village situated closer to Nanu-Oya railway station towards Radella station. Although it is relatively small, it is considered as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka due to its formation and charming atmosphere. Nanu-Oya Falls beautifully cascades down in a sequence of 25 steps. The fall joins the Kotmale and Mahaweli rivers and creates a very scenic view. The water of Nanu-Oya Falls flows through the Udaradella and Bambarakelle areas and this can be seen from the main road. The village and the waterfall are the best place for those travelers who love hiking. Just below the Nanu-Oya Falls, the latter part is another waterfall referred as Glassaugh falls. This is a 20 meters tall waterfall that flows in few steps. It starts from Uda Radella and Kikiliyamana mountains and joins with Nanu Oya.
From Nuwara Eliya you should travel approximately 3 km along the Peradeniya – Badulla – Chenkaladi Highway and a further 8 km along the Avissawella – Hatton – Nuwara-Eliya Highway to reach the Nanu-Oya Falls.
