This waterfall is situated in Pundaluoya village and formed by the Pundalu Oya River, so as received its name. It is sometimes also called as Dunsinane Falls or Dunsinane Sheen Falls, as the waterfall is situated between two tea plantations – Dunsinane Tea Estate and Sheen Tea Estate.
